Mindaugas Urbaitis

Mindaugas Urbaitis (born June 1, 1952 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian composer.

Life

Urbaitis studied composition with Julius Juzeliūnas at the Lithuanian State Conservatory in Vilnius until 1975 , followed by postgraduate studies until 1977. From 1991 to 1996 he was chairman of the Lithuanian Composers' Union and from 1991 to 1996 of the Baltic Gaida Music Festival in Vilnius. He teaches at the Music and Theater Academy of Lithuania .

Urbaitis is considered an important Lithuanian representative of minimalism . His works have been performed at international music festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival , the Bornholm Music Festival and the Vale of Glamorgan Festival . His ballet Acid City was awarded the title of best work of the year by the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture in 2002.
