The Mindoro Zwergohreule ( Otus mindorensis ) is an owl from the genus of scops owl . As an endemic, she lives exclusively on the Philippine island of Mindoro .
description
The very small owl becomes 18 to 19 centimeters long. It is brown on top with black lines on the shaft that form interrupted bands. The underside is predominantly dull yellow with thin white bands. The forehead is monochrome light brown or whitish, the eyes are bright yellow, the feather ears are of medium length. The beak is greenish yellow with a dirty flesh-colored wax skin . The whitish flesh-colored feet are only half feathered, the claws gray.
Way of life
It lives in mountain forests with a dense canopy over 870 meters above sea level. The diet is unknown. The voice consists of a series of short huuu sounds less than 0.5 seconds long and at least five seconds apart.
distribution
The little researched species is endemic to Mindoro. In some places, it is still common, but at BirdLife International it is considered endangered due to habitat destruction.
