Keymark mineral wool

Keymark quality mark

The mineral wool Keymark is a quality mark for mineral wool insulation materials based on European standards. The certification program is based on regular product and production tests by independent, accredited institutes.

Keymark is the most widely used quality mark for mineral wool insulation materials in Germany. It is used by all major mineral wool manufacturers.

Award

Keymark is awarded by DIN CERTCO, a joint company of TÜV Rheinland and the German Institute for Standardization (DIN). Keymark is based on an agreement between the EU Commission and CEN, the European Committee for Standardization . Before the mineral wool insulation materials are marked with Keymark, the products are checked for the first time, the so-called Product Type Determination (PTD). All product properties from the respective declaration of performance are checked.

After the initial certification, all properties from the declaration of performance are tested annually by independent laboratories. A control of the production takes place twice a year and also independently. The following institutes are accredited to test mineral wool products and production according to Keymark standards:

Relationship Keymark and Conformity Mark

Keymark can be applied for by any mineral wool producer worldwide. Purely national proof of usability and conformity, such as the so-called Ü mark , are no longer permitted for harmonized construction products from October 2016. This was also determined by a judgment of the European Court of Justice of October 16, 2014, Case C-100/13. This affects all construction products that are subject to uniform European regulations.

Relationship between Keymark and CE mark

For a product made of mineral wool to be sold in Germany and used in construction, the existing CE mark alone is sufficient. In contrast to the Ü mark or, for example, Keymark, the CE mark is not a quality mark. The CE mark according to the European standard DIN EN 13162 does not require regular and independent quality tests. It is just a self-declaration by the manufacturer. In the case of mineral wool products, however, the non-combustibility is also regularly checked in independent, accredited laboratories within the framework of the CE.
