The Ministry of Agriculture ( MoA ), or Ministry of Agriculture for short, is a ministry of the government of the West African state of Gambia .

Location and description

The seat of the ministry is in the capital Banjul in The Quadrangle .

The Ministry of Agriculture is responsible for agriculture in the country.

The origins of the Ministry of Agriculture go back to the Department of Agriculture (DoA), which was created in the British colony of Gambia in 1923 and primarily focused on improving the quantity and quality of the peanut harvest . With the independence of Gambia, responsibility was transferred to all agricultural products and the authority was renamed "Department of Agricultural Services".

When the Minister removed Kanja Sanneh from office on March 19, 2008 , the Department of Agriculture was temporarily subordinated to the Department of State for Fisheries, Water Resources.

Until mid-2009 the name was Gambia Department of State for Agriculture (DoSA) , also Department of Agricultural Services .
