Minitraum was a guitar duo from the GDR , which was founded in 1979 in Berlin by Rainer Schmidt and Michael Matthies .

Rainer Schmidt (previously Babylon) was the band's composer, Michael Matthies (previously with Keks ) the singer. The band played many of their own compositions, such as "Cat Berta", "Augen-Blick", "Ein Blick im Regen" and "Tage There are", which reached number 50 on the East German charts in 1985, as well as cover versions of international titles.
When the band performed live, the only instruments used were two guitars and a knock box designed by Schmidt to replace the drums. The band had numerous appearances on GDR television , for example in Ein Kessel Buntes or He-Du Extra (with Wolfgang Lippert ). In 1987 the television production of a live appearance at IMPRO in Magdeburg was made for an American television station. There were also numerous radio productions in Studio Nalepastrasse and appearances at festivals such as Rock for Peace (1987).
Due to the strongly decreasing engagements after the reunification, the band broke up in 1991.
Rainer Schmidt now lives in Magdeburg and composes, Michael Matthies founded the Duo Bianco and now sings Schlager.
