Minnesota 78

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minnesota 78 is a grape variety that was bred at the University of Minnesota , USA . She has been used extensively in breeding by Elmer Swenson . The Minnesota 78 grapevine is considered a hybrid grape because it is believed to have been bred from a beta hybrid of Vitis riparia . Even today, despite extensive documentation of the crossing and various experiments, this has not been fully proven. Because it has a certain adaptation to a harsh climate, a conclusion about its origin can be partially proven.

Due to its adaptability, it is mainly grown in the upper Midwest of America.

Typical of the Minnesota 78 vine are the dark purple, round grapes that can usually be harvested in early autumn. Due to its sweet taste, the grape can also be consumed directly. Due to their natural sweetness, the products of the vine are not only suitable for the production of woody wines, but also for fruit juices.
