Minolta Raw

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Minolta RAW (file extension * .MRW) is the proprietary raw data format of digital cameras from Minolta and Konica Minolta. It is produced by the camera models Dimage 5 , 7 , 7i , 7Hi , A1 and A2 , A200 , Dynax 5D , Dynax 7D , among others .

File format

The specifications for the MRW format are not freely accessible documented; most utilities are therefore based on the results of reverse engineering . Accordingly, an MRW file is structured as follows:

  • MRM block
    • PRD block
    • TTW block
    • WBG block
    • RIF block
    • PAD block
  • Image data

Utilities

Some image editing programs support the raw data format directly; These few programs include Adobe Photoshop CS , Paint Shop Pro X, and ThumbsPlus 6 Professional ; plug-ins must be used for older Photoshop versions and compatible programs ; one example is the MRW format plug-in for Photoshop . Otherwise, Minolta RAW files can be opened with the Dimage Viewer (DIVU) software and then saved in a standardized data format with 8-bit or 16-bit color depth. There is also a filter for the GNU GIMP software , the Gimp Plugin for Minolta RAW Files .

Auxiliary programs from other manufacturers can also be used for further processing, for example with the freeware OpenMAW from Russell Bozian, which converts Minolta RAW files into TIFF files with an embedded ICC profile. Another utility is the freeware Image Shifter , which also converts Minolta RAW files into TIFF files and offers numerous setting options, as well as the freeware RAW Deal and the powerful Raw Shooter Essentials 2006 from Pixmantec.

Conversion to Adobe Digital Negative Format (DNG) is also possible.
