Minus the Bear was an American band from Seattle .

history

The band was founded in 2001 by members of the bands Botch , Kill Sadie and Sharks Keep Moving and has since released five albums, nine EPs and one remix album. The band's music is characterized by Dave Knudson's guitar playing ( tapping ) and many electronic influences. The band's music, especially the guitar arrangements, are heavily influenced by jazz. The two guitar lines are strongly structured and rhythmically interwoven.

The songs on the first releases mostly have entertaining titles, for example a song from the 2002 album Highly Refined Pirates is titled Monkey !!! Knife !!! Fight !!!. Since the album Menos el Oso , however, these humorous titles can no longer be found. The name Minus the Bear comes from an inside joke among the band members.

On January 2, 2006, producer and keyboardist Matt Bayles announced that he was leaving the band to concentrate on his work as a producer. His last appearance with the band took place on January 28, 2006. He was replaced by Alex Rose, who worked as a technician on the band's last album.
