Miramar is a seaside resort in the northeast of the province of Cordoba in central Argentina , on the shores of Lake Mar Chiquita . At the cut-off date of the 2001 census it had 1979 inhabitants.

The seaside resort developed into one of the most important holiday centers in the province between 1940 and 1960. In the 1970s the place had 4500 inhabitants and around 110 hotels. The most famous was the Hotel Viena , a monstrous luxury hotel run by a family of German descent in the period after the Second World War . There are a number of rumors surrounding the hotel, which is now partially flooded, and it is said to have served as a hiding place for high-ranking officials of National Socialism . These rumors mainly came about as the hotel closed after a few years of activity for no obvious reason.

However, in 1977 the lake expanded greatly due to high levels of rainfall and permanently flooded the entire center of Miramar, causing a sharp decline in tourist activities. As a result, the population decreased to under 2000. In order to establish an alternative branch of the economy, nutria breeding was established.

In 1992 the city administration decided to blow up the flooded parts of the village and thus clear the way for a new waterfront. This is currently under construction. Since then, Miramar has been able to resume part of its tourist activities. In 2004, a joint tourism project was started with the larger neighboring town of Balnearia in the interior and the smaller towns of La Para and Marull , which had become coastal towns due to the floods.
