Mircea V. Ciobanul († September 25, 1559 ), rum. Mircea al V-lea Ciobanul , was the prince of Wallachia .

Life

Ciobanul was the fifth son of Radu cel Mare. He married the daughter of Petru Rares. In the period from January 17, 1545 to November 16, 1552 Ciobanul took over the rule of Wallachia for the first time. After a lost battle, the prince fled to Giurgiu in 1552 . In May 1553 he received the throne back with the participation of the Moldovan prince Alexandru Lăpuşneanu . He only kept this until February 28, 1554. With the support of Sultan Suleyman I , from January 1558 to September 2, 1559, he again took control of Wallachia. Mircea Ciobanul died that same year. He was buried in the Church of Curtea Veche in Bucharest .
