Mireille Ballestrazzi (born September 2, 1954 in Orange ) is a French police officer . She was president of the international police organization Interpol from 2012 to 2016 . In this position she was the first woman and the second person from France after Ivan Barbot (1988-1992).

Life

Ballestrazzi also studied at the École nationale supérieure de la police (ENSP) after completing her degree in philology and achieved her first professional success as an investigator in the late 1970s in the fight against organized crime in Bordeaux . Later she headed the investigation agency for art theft (Office central de répression des vols d'objet d'art). She also became known in 1993 as the Chief of Police in Corsica , when the island was perceived as a crime hotspot. In 2010 she became Deputy Director of the French Police Judiciaire and Vice President of Interpol. Since November 8, 2012, she has been President of Interpol, succeeding Khoo Boon Hui . In November 2016, she was succeeded by Meng Hongwei , Vice Minister for Public Security in the PRC at the time of his election, in the presidency.
