Miroslav Sikora (born October 5, 1957 in Katowice ) is a former German - Polish ice hockey player and official.

Career

Miro Sikora began his career in Germany in 1977 at the Cologne EC in a curious way: When the Polish U20 national team was at a training camp in Cologne , he left his team on a free afternoon on August 10, 1977 and hid the whole day in a cinema until he contacted another Polish player who was already playing in Germany at the time. He was then banned for all games in the Bundesliga as well as for games in the European Cup and in national teams for 18 months .

After his suspension expired, he played actively for the Cologne EC from 1979 to 1994. With the Haie team he was German champion five times and in 1985 he came second in the European Cup . In total, Sikora played 644 games in the Bundesliga for the Cologne team, with 838 scorer points making him one of the most successful players in league history. The shirt number 11, with which Sikora played for the Cologne EC for 15 years, will no longer be given to any other player in his honor at the KEC. In 1986 he was the top scorer of the Bundesliga main round and was elected to the league's All-Star Team. He was also the top scorer of the Bundesliga playoffs in 1982 and 1987.

Following his career as a player, he worked for four years as the manager of the Kölner Haie, until he was fired in 1998 and retired from ice hockey.

International

Under the name Miroslaw Sikora, Sikora, who was named Miroslav by the press in the mid-1980s, competed in the 1976 World Junior Championships for his native Poland. Naturalized in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1986, he took part in the DEB selection at the 1987 World Cup. On his debut at the World Cup, there were some irritations among the German opponents, as Sikora had already played for the Polish selection in his youth. The protests put in by the other teams were rejected by the International Ice Hockey Federation IIHF .
