Mirovia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mirovia (from Russian мировой (mirovoi) - global) was a hypothetical, global primeval ocean that surrounded the supercontinent Rodinia - 1,100 to 800 mya (million years ago ) - in the era of the Neoproterozoic .

In the cryogenium - 750 mya - Mirovia and most of Rodinias were located around the South Pole and frozen to a depth of 2 km. Only part of Rodinia - Gondwana - was close to the equator in the Pan-African Ocean and was not wrapped in the ice of snowball earth .

In the Ediacarium - 600 mya - when the fragments of Rodinias drifted northwards and macroscopic life slowly developed, the global ocean Panthalassa emerged from Mirovia .

The Precambrian forerunner of Mirovia, which surrounded the more or less hypothetical earlier supercontinents Columbia , Kenorland or even Ur , is not given a name of its own in the geosciences .
