The Misanthropic Division (German: People-hating Unit , Motto: Killing for Wotan ) is a right-wing extremist organization that emerged in Ukraine . She fights for the independence of Ukraine - both from Russia and from the European Union - with the aim of establishing a National Socialist state.

It serves as a combat unit in the Azov Regiment in eastern Ukraine against the pro-Russian separatists. Its members are considered to be racist and violent. They glorify National Socialism and the Waffen SS , among others . Amnesty International accuses them of serious human rights violations. The division has networks in Europe, USA , Canada , South America and Australia , which are also used for training and recruiting fighters.

In a video, alleged members of the division confess to the killing of Russian militia leader Arsen Pavlov , who died when an explosive device exploded in the elevator of his apartment building in October 2016. However, the authenticity of the video is unclear.

According to research by Belltower.News magazine , the Misanthropic Division recruits members from the international National Socialist Black Metal scene. The neo-Nazi Hendrik Möbus , convicted of murder , Alexey Levkin, singer of the band M8l8th and organizer of the NSBM festival Åsgårdsrei , and Famine, singer of the French black metal band Peste Noire , are the liaison persons . There are further connections to the Identitarian Movement and to the right-wing extremist party The III. Way .
