Peste Noire ( French for Black Plague , also Kommando Peste Noire (KPN) ) is a Black Metal band from La Chaise-Dieu , France, active since 2000 .

Well-known former musicians at Peste Noire are Neige and Winterhalter , who have gained notoriety for their music in other French bands such as Alcest , Amesoeurs and Les Discrets . Peste Noire is suspected of openly propagating right-wing extremist ideas with their music .

history

Peste Noire in Lyon , 2007.

Peste Noire was founded in 2000 by La sale Famine de Valfunde in La Chaise-Dieu near Avignon under the name Dor Daedeloth . The multi-instrumentalist and later Alcest founder Neige joined the group as drummer in 2001 . Argoth acted as bass player. Together, the demos created Aryan Supremacy , Mémoire païenne and Macabre transcendance ... .

In 2006, recruited Famine in Winterhalter and Indria Saray two new musicians, tilt, however, was thrown out of the band and also Argoth left Peste Noire, that the debut album La Sanie des siècles - panégyrique de la Dégénérescence as a trio on the French record label De Profundis Editions published has been. A year later the second album Folkfuck folie was released.

With a different line-up - Winterhalter and Indria were replaced by A. and Ragondin - Peste Noire released the album Ballade cuntre lo Anemi francor in March 2009 . After the musicians moved to Auvergne and founded their own underground record company La mesnie Herlequin in 2011 , they appeared with L'Ordure à l'état Pur , Peste Noire and La Chaise-Dyable .

Music and ideology

A leitmotif of Peste Noire is Satanism , whereby the musicians mainly refer to the Indo-European devils and demons instead of the Jewish Satan. According to Famine, Peste Noire play "Gothic Fantastique Grotesque, Archeafuturist Black Metal". Famine's vision of Black Metal is based on nationalism . He describes how Peste Noire is proud of its French cultural history, especially during the Middle Ages . In the first works, the texts are written in Middle French and use texts by French poets such as François Villon , Geoffrey of Paris , Christine de Pisan , Guillaume de Machaut , as well as by modern authors such as Charles Baudelaire , Paul Verlaine , Tristan Corbière and Robert Brasillach .

Peste Noire draw their musical inspiration from black metal pioneers such as Burzum , Mütiilation and Vlad Tepes . The more recent works also include influences from folk , anarcho-punk and even neo-class .

Peste Noire are suspected of being an NSBM band. Famine himself says that the musicians at Peste Noire are all proud nationalists . He also explained why the concept of the group is based on nationalism:

“Black Metal is the musical memory of our bloodthirsty ancestors of blood, it is the marriage of Tradition, of old racial patrimony with fanaticism, with the rage and the rashness of a youth now lost. It is a CHTHONIC religion: a cult of the EARTH and a return to it, therefore a nationalism; a cult of what is BELOW the earth: Hell - the adjective “chthonic” applies to the Infernal gods as well. BM is a fundamentalism, a music with integrity (from latin integer, complete) which helps me to remain complete in a dying world, amidst a people in decay, unworthy of its blood. It is the apology of the dark european past. It is a psychosis which helps us to flee a reality we cannot tolerate anymore. "

“Black Metal is the musical memory of our bloodthirsty ancestors, it is the marriage of tradition, old racial heritage with fanaticism, with the anger and recklessness of a now lost youth. It is a religion of the UNDERWORLD : A cult of the EARTH and a return to it, but nationalism; a cult about what is UNDER the earth: Hell - the adjective “chthonic” also stands for the infernal gods. Black Metal is fundamentalism , a music with integrity that helps me in a dying world, in the midst of decaying people, to remain normal, whose blood is unworthy. It's an excuse for Europe's dark past. It is a psychosis which to flee helps us in front of a reality that we can no longer tolerate. "

- Famine : Zero Tolerance Magazine

Despite the work of the Asian bassist Indria Saray on several of the group's works, Famine made it clear that elitism and nationalism were equivalent. So he saw no contradiction in his work, especially because Saray is considered the best bass player in the French black metal scene. Famine said that French nationalism allows foreigners to be recognized as French if they have proven their worth and their will and sees this as the difference to German nationalism.

According to research by the Belltower.News magazine , the right-wing extremist militia Regiment Azov and its associated Misanthropic Division are recruiting members from the international NSBM scene. In addition to Hendrik Möbus , Famine is also the liaison person. There are further connections to the Identitarian Movement and to the right-wing extremist party The III. Way .

  9. Famine refers to "the epithet 'Gothic' in the literary English sense and not in the sense of 'Goth music'. [..] To call art 'Gothic' was a derogatory term, used to designate the barbaric and strange aspect of French art (or art from the Île-de-France), since Gothic art originated in France. A barbaric art, of FRENCH IDENTITY so… it couldn't be more appropriate for PN. I'll go even further: if Peste Noire is Gothic BM, the last Peste Noire (2013) is Flamboyant Gothic, that is to say 'the exaggeration and decadence of Gothic art', according to the 'Manual of French Archeology' by Enlart , whose refinement is carried to an extreme in the midst of a period of war, anarchy, and questioning. " (translation of Famine's statement on Ballade cuntre lo Anemi francor ' s digipack:" Peste Noire est un groupe sataniste nationaliste français , pas allemand. PN rejette toute affiliation à l'impérialisme nazi, ennemi en essence de la culture française pour laquelle nous résistons. Puisse cela être un jour compris ... "). In the 2013 interview featured on La mesnie Herlequin, he later called the statement "jokey notes […] which everyone took seriously" , and claimed that "PN has always practiced misinformation. We don't give out an explicit message, only signals ( sometimes gigantic), dotted here and there in the middle of a huge pile of crap and bullshit. "
