Life

Stéphane Paut was born on April 15, 1985 in Bagnols-sur-Cèze . He started playing music at the age of 14. He spent most of his childhood alone. Paut lives in Paris .

Career

Paut first achieved notoriety in 2000 when he was active as a drummer in the French black metal band Peste Noire . This has always been controversial because it is in the right-wing extremist environment of Black Metal, the National Socialist Black Metal . Neige played with Peste Noire until the mid-2000s, with whom he released demos. Even after he left, he could be heard in individual songs in the group.

During his active time with Peste Noire, he founded the music project Alcest , which at the beginning also thought it belonged to Black Metal, but has now played Blackgaze . To date several demos, EPs and five studio albums have been released. Other groups Neige was involved in include Mortifera , Phest , Glaciation, and Amesoeurs . As a guest musician, he has appeared with Lantlôs , Old Silver Key , Deafheaven and Empyrium .

ideology

Due to his activity in the controversial metal band Peste Noire , Neige was often referred to as a right-wing musician. Above all, the title of the demo Aryan Supremacy , released in 2001, and various statements by the band in question let the fronts between the musician and various music magazines condense. After the German label Prophecy Productions signed Neige's music project Alcest , Neige spoke up and declared that he had never been an active part of Peste Noire and therefore did not take part in the writing of the lyrics. He said that he was not involved in the band's ideology:

“I never was involved in any way with any political, racist or xenophobic ideologies. I was just a musician in Peste Noire, most of the time session musician, I never took part of the lyrics or philisophy of the band. At the "Aryan Supremacy" period I was 15 years old and I didn't think about the consequence of recording some music with that band, it always was just musical participation for me. Alcest has NOTHING to do with any hate-based philosophy like racism and as a person I am absolutely NOT into nazism, racism and such ideologies. "

Regarding the topic of national pride, Neige responded to a question in a 2011 interview with Metal.de that some people in Germany had a certain sense of shame and rightly looked back on what the atrocities of the National Socialists had caused. Nevertheless, he also described so-called Nazi paranoia as a mindless extreme.

Neige is a spiritual and nature-related person. In an interview with the British Metal Hammer he described that spirituality and religion have nothing in common, but are in opposition to each other. The main reason for this is that religion dictates what to believe in, even if this is completely irrational.
