Amesoeurs ( French âme sœurs "soul mates") was a French Blackgaze band that was founded in 2004 in Bagnols-sur-Cèze by Stéphane "Neige" Paut and Audrey Sylvain and existed until 2009.
history
Sylvain and Paut founded Amesoeurs in 2004 from the endeavor to combine New Wave and Post-Punk with stylistic elements of Black Metal , as a setting of urban life. Another factor in the formation of the band was “Neiges” leaving the band Mortifera after the head of the band “Noktu”, two titles written by “Neige”, Bonheur Amputé and Ruines Humaines , had rejected for Mortifera . Both titles were later released on the debut EP.
After first rehearsals together and a band made up of friends of Pauts, Amesoeurs performed for the first and only time.
In April 2005, the band recorded a first, after the title Ruines Humaines named, EP on which Amesoeurs gave special attention. With this release, the band became an insider tip in the Black Metal environment. In addition to the two pieces written by “Neige”, the title Faiblesse des Sens , which Sylvain wrote and wrote together, was also on the EP. Most of the recordings took place in the German studio Klangschmiede Studio E of the guitarist and singer Markus Stock ( Empyrium , The Vision Bleak ). The EP was produced by Stock. Only Sylvain's vocals were recorded in “Neiges” garage with bad equipment and added later. Amesoeurs dedicated Ruines Humaines to Ian Curtis and Joy Division .
Bassist Fursy Teyssier left the band for a while after the EP was recorded to devote himself more to his studies, but was responsible for the graphic design of the EP. Although the band was looking for an alternative line-up, the position of bassist remained vacant for the time being, which is why “Neige” recorded the bass for the 2007 split EP with the Peste-Noire side project Valfunde . The split EP was recorded with simple equipment in the rehearsal room of the one-man project Valfunde and released on vinyl only. Neige and Sylvains took part in the unique project of Peste Noire frontman "La Sale Famine de Valfunde", which in the long term led to Sylvain's permanent involvement in Peste Noire. The included Amesoeurs title Les Ruches Malades was re-recorded for the following album.
Teyssier also returned to the band for the self-titled album. After the recordings, amesoeurs ended their active careers. The album was recorded again in the sound forge Studio E by Markus Stock. He also got involved with a spoken word passage on the piece Recueillement .
Before the album was recorded, his girlfriend at the time "Neiges" tried to persuade Sylvain to exclude him from the band. Sylvain explained that there was no reason for this personal attack. As the main reason for the end of the tape, however, she cites “Neiges” striving to continue with Alcest . "Neige" described the end of the band as the deliberate successful completion of a targeted project.
“AMOSEURS ' [sic!] Concept is like a finished painting and has not changed since the band was founded. I was of the opinion that with the EP and the album we had explored it as best we could and we have to stop now. I don't see us as 'stillbirth', it's more like having a certain picture in your head, painting it, finishing it and leaving it to the moment. "
style
The band is based on the stylistic intention to combine post-punk and black metal elements. Reviews often point to proximity to Joy Division and early The Cure . The New Wave elements are described as dominating , particularly due to the spherical female vocals and long soundscape passages. The proportion of stylistic elements of Black Metal is limited to isolated pieces, the occasional chant "Neiges" and deliberately set blastbeats .
“'Amesoeurs' is a wild ride across genres that feel well matched, but rarely collide in this form.
We're talking about Black Metal and Shoegaze . Both are very melancholy, and this is exactly where the common denominator can be found. On the first and only album by AMESOEURS, however, the Shoegaze portion slightly outweighs it, paired with bonds from JOY DIVISION, compared to the rough, sometimes hypnotic Black Metal. "
