Lantlôs is a German metal band that was founded in 2005 by Markus "Herbst" Siegenhort.

concept

Markus “Herbst” Siegenhort acts as the sole songwriter for Lantlôs. The musical and lyrical concept of the band goes on his as Derealization called disturbance I- back. Siegenhort, who learned to handle the disorder up to the release of .neon , describes the perception under this disorder as "unreal" and as "a strange, remote feeling that cannot be controlled."

“At some point you ask yourself what you are, why you are here, what is around you. These are questions that are omnipresent, not just during a philosophical hour. As soon as I see something, I wonder if it's really there or not. When this feeling, these thoughts, become normal, then you inevitably become more nihilistic because you question everything. "

- Markus “Herbst” Siegenhort

The band name also goes back to this disturbance. Due to the loss of reference to reality, Herbst feels permanently landless or homeless.

history

Îsern Himel and Lantlôs

Lantlôs was founded in 2005 by the childhood friends Markus "Herbst" Siegenhort and "Anggrau" as an initially nameless band project , musically influenced by Black Metal . At the beginning Herbst and Anggrau acted purely instrumentally, as neither of them was ready to take over the vocals. In 2005 Lantlôs recorded the first piece Every Gray Morning , the result delighted both musicians, whereupon another title was created with almost every subsequent meeting. Herbst and Anggrau, which the band temporarily called “Mitsommerregen”, played the finished material in the rehearsal room in two days. The lyrics all dated back to Herbst, who described writing the debut lyrics as an ordeal. The lyrics of the demo, on the other hand, were created spontaneously in the rehearsal room and were sung directly by Herbst.

Even before the first official release of Lantlôs, Herbst participated as a drummer in the band Líam , whose first two EPs My Journey to the Sky and Two Years and a Fragment were released in 2007 and 2008 before the band Lantlôs debuted. While their demo recording goes back to Anggrau and Herbst alone, the Eïs singer Florian “Alboin” D., whom Herbst met through an acquaintance , took part in the debut as a session musician.

Due to different views regarding the musical direction of the band, which resulted in an unsuccessful session for the final mix of the debut, Herbst split up with Anggrau and Alboin before the release.

.neon

Stéphane “Neige” Paut

Stéphane “Neige” Paut from Alcest and Amesoeurs took the place of the singer . After Herbst, Alboin and Anggrau had finished recording their debut album, Herbst contacted Fursy Teyssier. Teyssier, who worked as a guitarist for Amesoeurs, was also responsible for the band's artwork and added an Internet address to the EP Ruines Humaines . In search of an artistic concept that would fit Lantlôs, Herbst turned to Teyssier, who not only took over the artwork from Lantlôs and .neon , but also passed the audio samples on to Neige. In the following time there was a lot of internet correspondence as well as personal meetings, which ultimately led to Neige taking over the singing for the time being. Herbst explained the collaboration in a similar vita and similar experiences from an ego disorder.

“I used to have this derealization thing and he just knew it. Before that, I had never met anyone who knew it that way. We were able to complete our sentences. And that's why we made music together. Before that I ran from doctor to doctor and no one could help me until I suddenly met these dudes from France who could formulate it so precisely. That is why this special relationship came about between us and that is why our music is also similar. "

- Markus “Herbst” Siegenhort

The albums .neon and Agape , attributed to Blackgaze , were produced with Neige as singer . After the debut, a cooperation with Prophecy Productions, for which Herbst has been working since then, came about through a youth acquaintance who had emerged from a fan letter to Prophecy Productions regarding Dornenreich . .neon , which was created shortly after the release of the debut album, was not marketed until a year after its completion, because Herbst was looking for a label change for Lantlôs. During this time there was a conflict between the previous distribution company Aeternitas Tenebrarum Musicae Fundamentum and Prophecy Productions, which should act as a new label with .neon .

Agape

For Agape , Herbst took on the drummer Felix Wylezik for the first time, as he was no longer able to play the instrument painlessly due to chronic tendinitis . While Herbst and Neige still sent the sound material for .neon to each other online and Herbst mixed everything at the end of the production, they both met for Agape , stayed at Herbst's parents' house and recorded the album.

Melting Sun

The songwriting for Melting Sun remained the main task of Herbst, despite the first full band line-up, while the drummer Felix Wylezik took part in the final production and thus the first ideas of band members were incorporated into the sound of Lantlôs.

style

The demo recordings published as Îsern Himel in 2008 as well as the self-titled debut album, which was released in the same year, deal mainly with urban issues in the context of the loss of reality and the feeling of foreignness and the resulting isolation . Stylistically, Îsern Himel and Lantlôs were still close to Black Metal without corresponding to it in terms of content. Herbst described the album Lantlôs in retrospect as his most emotionally personal release, about which he does not want to give any details.

Also .neon dealt with the theme of derealization and has "the discrepancy between the human nucleus and the outside world [sic]" as a guide to content. The spelling of the album title and the period in front of the word should appear cold and sterile. The album title corresponds to the basic concept and is based on an extreme derealization experience.

“[I] I was out in the evening and was completely delirious, wandered around and didn't know where, where I was, what I am, why and was just completely disoriented. Everything I saw was inside me and a few neon lights and colors. "

- Markus “Herbst” Siegenhort

The title of the third album goes back to the ancient Greek word agape for non-physical love. Herbst explains the title and the entire album concept as an extension of the previous band concept.

“[I] n the texts and the themes, it is always about characters who live in the garbage and dirt, post-apocalyptic scenarios, so to speak, and who lose their minds because of people's lack of affection. That is also the relation to the album title: They have such a strong need for love and affection and warmth that they forget their external environment and lose themselves in delusions ... "

- Markus “Herbst” Siegenhort

During the recordings of Melting Sun Herbst amicably parted with Neige in order to emancipate Lantlôs from the roots in Black Metal. On Melting Sun he does all the singing himself and dispenses with the typical chanting . Other style elements of Black Metal have also been greatly reduced. In addition, the band concept shifted with Melting Sun after Herbst had overcome his ego disorder. He explained that the basic idea of producing oneself remained, while the complex of topics had shifted due to the changed inner workings.

“I really get involved in what is going on inside of me and that eventually becomes a song. Only what moves me has changed. "
