Les Discrets is a Blackgaze band from Lyon , France, founded in 2003 .

history

Les Discrets was launched in 2003 in Lyon by the illustrator Fursy Teyssier as a solo project “to collect music and art”. Teyssier himself was active in the metal band Phest at this time . By the year 2009, Teyssier solely responsible showed the Musikprojek before it from Alcest - drummer Winterhalter was supported and Audrey Hadorn. Neige was also won over as a bass player for live concerts . Teyssier, Neige and Winterhalter already played together in the now disbanded band Amesoeurs . Teyssier also designed all of the cover artwork for Alcest, Amesoeurs and Les Discrets.

In April 2009, Les Discrets signed a record deal for five albums with the German company Prophecy Productions . In December of the same year a split EP with Alcest was released; The debut album Septembre et Ses Dernières Pensées followed in March of the coming year . Nearly two years later published her second album Les Discrets Ariettes oubliées ... . Shortly before the release of the second album, Les Discrets completed a concert tour with Alcest and Soror Dolorosa , which led through several countries in Europe . In 2013 Winterhalter and Neige announced that they would be parting with Les Discrets in order to be able to concentrate more on their work with Alcest. Teyssier was also active as a live musician with Alcest for a while.

In April 2017, almost five years after the release of the second long player, the third full-fledged album by Les Discrets was released with Prédateurs . Before that, Les Discrets played their second European tour in January, which led to Russia for the first time .

music

Teyssier is considered to be one of the central figures in the Blackgaze scene who mix the musical influences of Black Metal with Shoegazing . Les Discrets is known for its musical fusion of great melodies and a warm, cinematographic wall of sound. In addition to shoegazing and indie rock , the musicians also work with influences from trip-hop on the third Prédateurs . Musical comparisons are mainly drawn with Alcest , with bands like Slowdive and Portishead also being among the influences. Les Discrets have left all Black Metal influences behind them on Prédateurs . The duo is known to break all genre boundaries. Thus, in addition Shoegazing also elements of the post-black metal , post-rock , post-punk to downtempo , electronic chill-out, film music and even from the dream pop again. The music is compared with Alcest's fourth album Shelter , as well as with Archive and Depeche Mode .

The lyrics, which are mainly in French , mostly described the topics of death , life and everything in between. The debut album Septembre et Ses Dernières Pensées was about a deceased person who, however, did not know that she was dead. On the follow-up to Ariettes Oublieés… however, the lyrics revolve around a fictional character who knows death. The album title of the second album was inspired by a poem by the French poet Paul Verlaine . This was also the basis for the content of the album. The songs are mainly written by Audrey Hadorn, who is in a relationship with Teyssier. On Prédateurs , the songs deal with nature , the transience of life and the ignorance of the “human predator”.
