bonnFM is the university radio of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg . It broadcasts on the VHF frequency 96.8 MHz with 500 watts and can be heard in the city of Bonn , as well as in some parts of the Rhein-Sieg district . The antenna is currently located on the roof of the former Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Bonn. In addition to the FM operation, a web stream is offered. The station bonnFM emerged from the two former campus radio stations bonncampus 96,8 and radio96acht and was officially created on July 5, 2013 at a general assembly.

Association and transmitter

The broadcaster bonnFM is supported and financed by its sponsoring association bonnFM eV The sponsoring association administers the station's funds, arranges arrangements with the University of Bonn and other institutions in the field of radio, training, sponsorship and media and is the licensee.

All employees of the broadcaster bonnFM are members of the sponsoring association. This regulation is laid down in the statutes of the association and confirmed by the license of the State Agency for Media (NRW). In principle, every student of the University of Bonn and the University of Bonn Rhein-Sieg as well as all employees of both universities are able to join the broadcaster and association.

The station is organized by six departments: word-of-mouth, music, news, online, social media and PR team, all of which contribute to radio operations with their work.

program

The bonnFM program is structured along the lines of public and private broadcasters . Program rails are used to ensure that the same programs are continuously broadcast every day at the same time. The program includes both classic morning formats and special evening programs. The latter deal with topics from politics and society, film and television, or music.

The broadcaster's program concept is based on elements from Deutsche Welle and WDR (including 1Live in particular ). The programs are directed by a moderator and the content is designed by a comoderator and several reporters. A manager on duty usually takes on the coordination and planning of the respective program . The news on the hour are taken over by WDR 5 and embedded in the program. News from the University of Bonn and the University of Bonn / Rhein-Sieg are read every half hour. If the respective program has a newscaster, he will also take over the world news on the hour.

history

The transmitter bonnFM has only existed since July 5, 2013. On that day, the sponsoring association of the old transmitter bonncampus 96.8 was dissolved and that of radio96acht Bonn was renamed. Both radio groups have merged. bonnFM initially broadcast from the old studio of bonncampus 96.8 in the old observatory on Poppelsdorfer Allee in Bonn. In 2017, the station moved into a new studio on Adenauerallee near the Hofgarten and in the immediate vicinity of the university and state library.

Well-known former employees of bonnFM and its predecessor stations are u. a. Gavin Karlmeier (freelance social media consultant, including at 1 Live ), Johanna Tänzer (1 live presenter), Gero Simone (1 live presenter) and Ralph Günther (presenter at Deutschlandfunk Nova and WDR 2 ).
