bonncampus 96.8 was a student radio at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg . It broadcast on the VHF frequency 96.8 MHz with 500 watts and could be heard in the city of Bonn , as well as in some parts of the Rhein-Sieg district . The antenna is currently located on the roof of the former Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Bonn. In addition to the FM operation, a web stream was offered during broadcast times . On July 5, 2013, bonncampus 96.8 merged with the second campus radio broadcasting from Bonn to form the currently only campus radio from Bonn, bonnFM .

Association and transmitter

The transmitter bonncampus 96.8 was supported and financed by its sponsoring association bonncampus 96.8 eV The sponsoring association managed the funds of the transmitter, made arrangements with the University of Bonn, as well as other institutions in the field of radio, training, sponsoring and media and was the Licensee.

All employees of the transmitter bonncampus 96.8 were members of the sponsoring association. This regulation was laid down in the statutes of the association and confirmed by the license of the State Agency for Media (NRW). In principle, every student of the University of Bonn and the University of Bonn Rhein-Sieg was able to join the broadcaster and association.

The broadcaster has organized itself into five editorial offices: word editing, music editing, news editing, online editing and training editing, all of which have contributed to radio operations with their work.

program

The program of bonncampus 96.8 was structured along the lines of the public and private broadcasters . Program rails were used to ensure that the same programs were continuously broadcast every day at the same time. The program included both classic morning formats and special evening programs. The latter dealt with topics from politics and society, film and television, or music.

The broadcaster based its program concept on elements of Deutsche Welle and WDR (including 1Live in particular ). The programs themselves were directed by a moderator who, with the help of the CvD and studio guests, enriched the program with contributions and original sounds. The news was written and read by the company's own newscasters every full and half hour.

history

As early as 2002/2003, the first broadcasts were produced by those interested in radio as part of an event radio. After approval for a full-time program by the State Agency for Media , the official start of broadcasting took place on July 9, 2005. The license granted was valid for four years and was renewed in summer 2009.

In the run-up to the first licensing in 2005, six interested parties came together, among them the former association CampusRadio Bonn, the media studies department of the University of Bonn and the (Fach) Hochschule Bonn Rhein-Sieg, to talk about a possible radio operation in Bonn. Due to different broadcasting concepts, a so-called frequency splitting finally came about through moderation by the State Agency for Media .

With the license renewal in summer 2009, several groups joined forces. CampusRadio Bonn eV, Radio Sternwarte [96.8] - connected to the Institute for Communication Sciences - and FH-Radio - connected to the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University - became bonncampus 96.8. The new broadcaster has two locations: The University of Bonn and the University of Bonn-Rhein-Sieg.

The online platform bonncampus.fm was also launched on October 19, 2009. This is used for additional online reporting and is intended to expand the offer.

On July 5, 2013, the sponsoring association of Bonncampus 96.8 merged with radio96acht Bonn , the second campus radio still broadcasting from Bonn, in the new association bonnFM .

In the history of the station, the editorial team of bonncampus 96.8 has been honored with various awards. In 2009 the radio operators won the W (ahl) Award from the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb). The feature editorial team received the LfM Citizens Media Prize in 2010 for the radio feature "What would life be without death?" In the following year, bonncampus 96.8 was able to prevail in the categories "Creative Program Performance" and "Special Jury Prize" of the 2011 LfM Campus Radio Prize.

There were nominations for the Alternative Media Prize in the "Audio" category in 2011 and 2012.

Bonn radio groups

Two groups shared three studios :

  • bonncampus 96.8 - Studio Alte Sternwarte and Studio Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg
  • radio96acht Bonn - Studio Lennestrasse

The new broadcaster bonnFM initially took over the studio in the Alte Sternwarte, but now broadcasts from a new studio on Adenauerallee .
