  • MiF from different value steps of a stamp issue. The colored franking represents a special form here .

  • Mixed franking from postage stamps and postage stamps cut out from postal stationery (value stamp). It should be noted that some postal administrations do not allow the use of postal stationery clippings for franking purposes . From the German Post AG to allow current permission was withdrawn for such FPP October 1, 1998th The reason given was problems with the machine handling of the letters with the postal stationery sections.
  • MiF from postage stamps and an indicia , for example from postage stamps and sender indicia or from postage stamps and cash franking stamp . The combination of postage stamps and cash franking stamps is found primarily when the postage to be paid cannot be fully proven with postage stamps when a consignment is posted at the counter.

Two-country franking

A special form of mixed postage is the two-country postage, i.e. the use of postage stamps from two postal administrations on one mail item. MiFs of this kind arise, for example, when a postal administration is not a member of the Universal Postal Union and another postal administration takes over the international postal traffic. For example, Afghanistan's stamps were only valid domestically until the country joined the Universal Postal Union on April 1, 1928; Indian stamps had to be used for forwarding abroad. Two-country frankings also arise as a result of special agreements or certain political changes. From July 1, 1990, the issues of the Deutsche Bundespost and the Deutsche Bundespost Berlin were also valid in the GDR , the stamps issued by the Deutsche Post of the GDR in the period from July 2 to October 2, 1990 could also be used in the Federal Republic Germany and Berlin (West). Thus there was even the possibility of three-country postage.

Additional postage

The additional postage is to be distinguished from the mixed postage . This is a franking for additional postal services (e.g. express mail, cash on delivery, airmail transport, certain transport routes) that is to be provided in addition to the franking for a simple mail item. The additional franking is done with the usual postage stamps or with special types of stamps (e.g. airmail stamps). A frequently found additional postage is the postage stamp applied to a postal item (e.g. when using a domestic postcard for a shipment abroad). The additional postage also often occurs with postal stationery that remain valid after the postage increase. The difference between the postage already paid and the new postage is compensated for by sticking the corresponding postage stamps. While additional franking on postal stationery after postage increases are less popular with collectors and therefore tend to reduce their value, postal stationery with additional franking is sought after by specialists for the use of additional services.
