The postage stamp year 1990 of the German Post Office of the German Democratic Republic comprised 62  special stamps , a stamp block with one special stamp, a miniature sheet with four special stamps with the same motif and nine definitive stamps . There were two composite prints with a total of six stamps.

particularities

The 1990 stamp year was the last in the history of the GDR's Deutsche Post .

For the first time there was a joint issue with the same motif, published by five European postal administrations (Deutsche Post, Deutsche Bundespost , Deutsche Bundespost Berlin as well as in Belgium and Austria ) on the 500-year history of European postal services .

With the monetary, economic and social union on July 1, 1990, Deutsche Post issued new postage stamps in the German Mark currency. This could not be seen on the issues themselves, as only numbers indicated the value in pennies. However, the name GDR on the stamps was replaced by Deutsche Post . All issues of the GDR Post that were still valid until then (issues from 1964 , the 2-mark values of the definitive series "State President Wilhelm Pieck" and the definitive series of State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht published since 1961 ), which were originally unlimited for postage, were lost becomes valid with the reunification after October 2nd, 1990 . At no time were mixed franking of GDR stamps in Ost-Mark currency and stamps of the Deutsche Bundespost (and Bundespost Berlin) permitted.

The stamps issued after July 1, 1990 were also valid until December 31, 1991 in the so-called "West traffic area" ( old federal states and West Berlin ), those of the Deutsche Bundespost and Deutsche Bundespost Berlin were also valid in the "East traffic area" (GDR or new federal states ).

One day before the reunification of Germany , the last six stamps with the name "Deutsche Post" were issued.

For philatelists , this collecting area is now complete.

First all-German postage stamp for reunification

The next German postage stamp appeared on October 3, 1990 on the occasion of reunification ( Day of German Unity ) and represents the first all-German issue.
