Ancient art treasures returned from the Soviet Union

Antique art treasures returned from the Soviet Union is the title of two series of stamps issued by the GDR 's Deutsche Post in 1958 and 1959 . The GDR universal catalog lists these stamps under the title Return of Rescued Art Treasures by the USSR and as part of the series " Paintings in the Dresden Picture Gallery returned from the USSR " . The representation of the Michel catalog is used here.

All brands have a uniform representation with a photo of the object and a colored border. For the first two stamps, the background of the photo was also in the edge color. They were designed by Klaus Wittkugel .

The reason for the issue was the return of the museum pieces that were looted in the Soviet Union after the Second World War .
