The Aul was founded in 1800. In 1924 he became the center of a rajon, which in 1940 received the name of the Adygeic poet Zug Teutschesch (1855-1940). In 1963 the neighboring Oktjabrski rajon (today Tachtamukaiski rajon ) was connected and the administrative headquarters were moved to Oktjabrski (today again Tachtamukai), then in 1976 to the newly created city of Teutscheschsk (today Adygeisk). After the re-outsourcing of the Oktjabrski rajon in 1983 and the formation of an independent Adygeisk district , Poneschukai became the center of the Teutscheschski rajon again in 2000.
