Michel, block number 16

With the postage stamp year 1960, the GDR Deutsche Post issued 61  special stamps and one block , all of which were printed on paper with the watermark No. 3 (GDR around finial ) and the country designation " German Democratic Republic ". For at least 16 items a surcharge had to be paid to promote sport, erect anti-fascist memorials and build an FDGB holiday ship, which resulted in a sum of 1.40 DM .

Since 1955 , a value, and almost all were in most special stamp sets usually block and from 1962 appeared little sheet issues in significantly reduced edition printed. These so-called values in small circulation were, apart from a delivery limited to two items per postal customer, on the first day of issue and on the first day after the expiry of the collection period, only with a collector's pass at the post office counters or via a direct purchase from the dispatch point of the Deutsche Post available in Berlin . In this brand year, the circulation of these values was 1,000,000 or 1,100,000 copies. The first single cut special stamp of the GDR Post (Michel no. 805 B) was printed in 2 million copies and Block 7 in 2.1 million copies.

Definitive stamps only came to the counter as a booklet of the five-year plan series (booklet no. 3) in December 1960. The booklet, which also contains postal information on the valid postage rates and advertising leaflets, etc. a. for lottery were added, included at a selling price of 2.- DM in each case once the book sheets 7 to 9 with 6 values to 5 Pf. 7 values to 10 Pf. and 5 to 20 Pf. For collectors purposes, were Bookletpanesheets , each 9 booklet sheets and in which the existing blind fields were printed with red St. Andrew's crosses .

The validity of almost all special stamps ended on March 31, 1962, only one year later for the value for the construction of the Sachsenhausen National Memorial (Mi. 783 A). The definitive stamps from the stamp booklet were valid - with the exception of the 20 Pf value (Mi. 580), which could only be used until May 31, 1962 - until December 31, 1962.

particularities

Sports motifs for the Summer and Winter Olympics in Rome and Squaw Valley marked the start of the year of issue. On sports topics there was another edition for the cycling world championships in Leipzig in May and then for the XIVth Chess Olympiad in September.

The GDR Post then branded the anniversaries of the founding of the Dresden art collections 400 years ago, the Meissen porcelain factory 250 years ago and the Berlin Humboldt University 150 years ago, as well as the opening of the first German railway line 125 years ago.

The establishment of the memorial of the former Sachsenhausen concentration camp was also financially supported by honoring anti-fascist resistance fighters with two editions and a value for the Sachsenhausen Memorial - each with additional stamps.

The construction of the East German economy was a overprint recognized mark the commissioning of the Rostock international port and a tetravalent set the "Day of Chemistry worker". Finally, there were again issues for Postage Stamp Day and the two Leipzig trade fairs .

Certainly motivated by philatelics - for the first time, the GDR Post issued a cut postage stamp (Mi. 805 B) in vertical tens outside a stamp block , which had to be cut off with scissors when the post office employees left the counter.
