The postage stamp year 1985 of the Deutsche Post of the German Democratic Republic comprised 50 individual special stamps , three stamp blocks with five special stamps and two miniature sheets with a total of seven special stamps. One of these stamps was also issued as a single motif. Twelve postage stamps were printed together; there were two pairs with an interior decorative field. No definitive stamps were issued this year . A total of 73 motifs appeared.

All postage stamp issues since 1964 as well as the 2- mark values ​​of the definitive series President Wilhelm Pieck and the definitive series of State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht , published since 1961, originally had unlimited postage validity . With the reunification after October 2, 1990, all brands lost their validity.
