The 1965 postage stamps issued by Deutsche Post der GDR were issued in 1965 by Deutsche Post der GDR . As in the previous year , block issues came to the counters and three stamps were issued in a horizontal overprint.

The year included a total of 69  special stamps and 2 blocks with 68 motifs and 2 definitive stamps. The number of issues decreased slightly compared to the previous year (1964: 79 special stamps, 18 of which were in four stamp blocks). A surcharge of 5 or 10 pfennigs (0.70 marks in total ) had to be paid for 11 special stamps . The two blocks were also sold with a front-end load of 0.10M (block 23) and 0.15M (block 24). The face value of the issues was 20.85 marks.

Since 1955 , a value, and almost all were in most special stamp sets usually block and from 1962 appeared little sheet issues in significantly reduced edition printed. These so-called values in small circulation were, apart from a delivery limited to two items per postal customer, on the first day of issue and on the first day after the expiry of the collection period, only with a collector's pass at the post office counters or via a direct purchase from the dispatch point of the Deutsche Post available in Berlin . In this brand year, the circulation of these values was between 1,200,000 and 1,400,000.

Until July of this year, the stamps were consistently printed on paper with the watermark No. 3 ( GDR around Kreuzblume ), after which watermark paper was only used in some of the issues.

All postage stamp issues since 1964 as well as the 2- mark values of the definitive series President Wilhelm Pieck and the definitive series of State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht , published since 1961, originally had unlimited postage validity . With the reunification after October 2, 1990, all brands lost their validity.

particularities

Special stamps

The stamps for the Leipziger Messe issued as three-value sets since 1962 - in 1964, however, a printed side field was moved to the place of the third value - were continued in 1965. This also applies to the cosmos motifs, first featured in the GDR Post's emissions program in 1961, which this year showed the exit of a person into space during the flight from Woschod 2 and the subsequent GDR visit of the cosmonauts involved. World championships in boxing and modern pentathlon held in the GDR formed the issue of a total of 7 sports postage stamps. After the 12 motifs in the Olympic year 1964, this was halved; in the following year it should be 12 again.

In line with the political self-image of the GDR leadership, the 20th anniversary of Germany's liberation from fascism was honored with collages on historical events from 1933 to 1945 with 9 values. For the first time there was a surcharge “Help for Vietnam”. This was the forerunner of the series " Invincible Vietnam ", which ran from 1966, with interruptions until 1979, and which was dedicated to the war in the Southeast Asian country. The series “ International memorials and memorials ”, started in 1963 and running until 1989 with mostly one value each, was continued . The postage rates of 25 and, from 1974 , 35 pfennigs, which were almost exclusively used, were used to frank postcards and simple letters in international traffic, so that the anti-fascist state doctrine of the GDR was to be demonstrated abroad by post. The end of the issue was a commemorative stamp for the former GDR Prime Minister Otto Grotewohl, who died in 1964 and who played a major role in the largely forced unification of the KPD and the SPD to form the SED in 1946.

4 stamps with buildings appeared for Leipzig's 800th birthday. These motifs were repeated in 2 blocks that appeared for the “Intermess III” stamp exhibition held to mark the city's anniversary . The 800th anniversary of the founding of Karl-Marx-Stadt (today Chemnitz again ) and the 200-year establishment of the Bergakademie Freiberg also reflected a three or four-valued edition. On the other hand, the zoo created by the division of Germany in East Berlin could look back on only 10 years of existence, to which the Post dedicated three values with animals from distant continents. Finally, the birthdays of famous personalities were also commemorated with special stamp issues. a. Albert Schweitzer, August Bebel, Adolph Menzel, Wilhelm Röntgen and Dante Alighieri.

Definitive stamps

The market values of the permanent series "Walter Ulbricht" from 1963 with the currency indication "DM" were replaced by the new designation "MDN"; however, the values in the old drawing have not been suspended.
