International memorials and memorials

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

From 1963 onwards, at least one special stamp was issued annually by the German Post Office of the GDR under the name International Memorials and Memorials . Almost all of these stamps were issued in the months of August, September and October of the year of issue and thus close to September 1st, the date of the attack on Poland by the National Socialist German Reich . In 1990 , the year of German reunification , there was no longer any new motif; the stamp issues of this year showed rather apolitical motives.

The motifs shown often represent memorials against the atrocities of World War II . The value grades of the stamps regularly corresponded to the postage for international postcards and letters in non-socialist countries, so that the GDR's self- image as an anti-fascist state with postal means, especially in this area of international mail should be documented.
