The postage stamp year 1983 of the German Post Office of the German Democratic Republic comprised 66 individual special stamps , seven stamp blocks with ten special stamps and a miniature sheet , the motif of which was also published as a single issue. Eight stamps were printed together; there were two pairs with an interior decorative field. No definitive stamps were issued this year . A total of 84 motifs appeared.

All postage stamp issues since 1964 as well as the 2- mark values ​​of the definitive series President Wilhelm Pieck and the definitive series of State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht , published since 1961, originally had unlimited postage validity . With the reunification after October 2, 1990, all brands lost their validity.
