The NWE No. 1–3 were three two-axle narrow - gauge locomotives produced by the Mecklenburgische Waggonfabrik-Aktiengesellschaft in 1896 for the Nordhausen-Wernigeroder Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (NWE).
history
These light locomotives were already used for the construction of the Nordhausen – Wernigeroder Railway. Later they worked mainly in shunting services. Locomotive No. 2 was retired in 1936 due to a boiler damage. The other two were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1949 and designated with the numbers 99 5804 (No. 1) and 99 5803 (No. 3). The first locomotive was parked in 1960, the second came to the Reichenbach (Vogtland) –Oberheinsdorf line in 1960 , where it was retired after the line was closed and scrapped in 1967.
technical features
The locomotives had an outer frame, a water tank was built into the front part of the frame, the filler necks were on the cladding for the steam pipes to the cylinders. The coal was housed to the right and left of the boiler. The drive took place via a Heusinger control on the second axis. The locomotives may have had Kobel chimneys when they were delivered. The 99 5803 received a compressed air brake for use in Reichenbach.
Varia
The locomotive 99 5804 was the template for a postage stamp of the GDR in 1983.
