The Mecklenburgische Waggonfabrik-Aktiengesellschaft was a rail vehicle manufacturer based in Güstrow . The company was founded in 1857 as Ernst Brockmann'sche Maschinenbau-Anstalt und Eisengießerei and was renamed Mecklenburgische Maschinen- und Wagenbau-Aktiengesellschaft in 1872 . Initially, steam engines and boilers as well as locomotives were manufactured . In 1891 it was converted into the Mecklenburgische Waggonfabrik-Aktiengesellschaft . From then on, the company concentrated on the production of locomotives and railroad cars for customers at home and abroad.
In the course of the next few years, the company's economic situation deteriorated, so that in the end it could no longer hold its own against the competition and in 1896 had to file for bankruptcy. By the time it was closed in 1897, a total of 86 locomotives and more than 600 railroad cars had been produced.
