Jochen Bertholdt
Jochen Bertholdt (born April 12, 1936 in Leipzig ; † December 31, 2020 ) was a German graphic artist .
Career
From 1950 to 1953, Bertholdt completed his apprenticeship at Eckert & Pflug before he went to the Grafische Kunstanstalt Leipzig as a graphic artist . Until 1959 he specialized in drawn perspective factory and machine views. He also attended evening school at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art until 1959 . From 1959 he worked for nine years in shipbuilding in Wismar and Rostock as a commercial artist, before starting in 1968 as a freelance commercial artist.
Bertholdt's main areas of responsibility were scientific and technical graphics, perspective X-ray sectional representation of systems, architecture, machines, all kinds of means of transport, as well as illustrations from the fields of natural sciences.
His main techniques were drawing , mixed media, watercolor and acrylic .
Bertholdt received the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Design Prize in 1992 and 1996, and his stamp designs were voted the most beautiful stamp of the year five times.
Most recently Bertholdt lived and worked in Rostock . He died on New Year's Eve 2020 at the age of 84.

Bertholdt's most important works include the book Ships and Shipping of Tomorrow , which has already been published in its 8th edition , for which he took on the complete illustration, layout and overall design. Other well-known books are Express into the Third Millennium and Atlas Weltmeer .
134 stamps were designed by Bertholdt, 125 of them by the GDR's Deutsche Post and nine by the Deutsche Bundespost and Deutsche Post AG . The special stamp 1000 Years of Tangermünde Castle was last issued in 2009 .
Bertholdt also designed postage stamps for various private postal service providers. In May 2005, for example, a series of postage stamps with maritime motifs was published by the private mail carrier RIDAS and on April 17, 2006 by the postal service provider Ostsee-Post the series Hanse Sail with ship motifs .
