The postage stamp year 1989 of the German Post Office of the German Democratic Republic comprised 56 individual special stamps , four stamp blocks with six special stamps and two miniature sheets with ten special stamps. Fourteen postage stamps were printed together; there were three pairs with an interior decorative field.

No definitive stamps were issued this year . A total of 74 motifs appeared.

All postage stamp issues since 1964 as well as the 2- mark values of the definitive series President Wilhelm Pieck and the definitive series of State Council Chairman Walter Ulbricht , published since 1961, originally had unlimited postage validity . With the reunification after October 2, 1990, all brands lost their validity.

particularities

For the first time, two of the four stamp blocks issued were individually numbered. The four motifs telephones in the course of the ages existed both as individual brands and in combined print. The Meißner Porzellan (III) issue was also issued as individual stamps and in a larger format as a composite print.
