From 1950 to 1953 Scheuner completed an apprenticeship as a graphic draftsman. He then took up a job in the profession he had learned in the Jülich cliché factory in Karl-Marx-Stadt. From 1956 to 1969 he worked for DEWAG and then as a freelance commercial artist and member of the Association of German Artists (VBKD). His field of activity was industrial advertising. He designed brochures, advertisements, signets as well as trade fairs and exhibitions and designed greeting cards and tourist brochures. In addition to his work in the field of advertising and illustration, he developed his own designs in the late 1970s. For example, at the Leipzig spring fair in 1979, his first postage stamps related to the fair were issued for Deutsche Post .

The Chemnitz postage stamp designer also designed Christmas stamps; he was responsible for the GDR Christmas stamps for 1986, 1987, 1988 and 1989. Each series consisted of six different motifs; Erzgebirge Schwibbogen (1986), Christmas pyramids (1987), bobbin lace (1988) and Erzgebirge candlestick spiders (1989). For the series “Historical Erzgebirge Folk Art” he was honored with the “Golden Postage Stamp” award. He had conceived the themes as early as 2000. Smokers, nutcrackers, angels and miners. For 1990 he chose the motif "Escape to Egypt". His draft was immediately confirmed in Berlin and was already available as a final drawing in the Leipzig security printing works, but was never printed because the GDR no longer existed.

In 2013 he designed the stamp for the 175th anniversary of the first German steam locomotive and in 2014 a stamp for the World Heritage Site of the Unesco Lorsch Monastery , both of which were accepted by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
