Buch is a district of the city of Tangermünde in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany).

geography

The village of Buch is located near the left bank of the Elbe, where the Elbe forms the border with the Jerichower Land district . The cities of Stendal and Tangermünde are north of Buch.

history

A place is said to have existed here as early as Carolingian times. In 1335 Buch was referred to as castrum et oppidium , German festivals and city . The place is the ancestral home of the noble family of the same name mentioned a hundred years earlier . Buch was one of several market towns in the Altmark and a place fortified by a double ring wall . Buch never developed into a real city. The nearby Tangermünde had the center function in this area. Repeated floods when the Elbe flooded and other disasters prevented the area from growing. Despite the town charter, Buch remained an agricultural village.

Until December 31, 2009, Buch was an independent municipality and belonged to the Tangermünde administrative community, which was dissolved in 2010 .

By means of an area change agreement, the municipal council of the municipality of Buch decided on June 9, 2009 that the municipality of Buch should be incorporated into the city of Tangermünde. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.

After the previously independent municipality was incorporated , Buch became a district of the city of Tangermünde. For the district of Buch, the local constitution was introduced according to §§ 86 ff. Of the municipality code of Saxony-Anhalt . In Buch, a local council with nine members was formed, including the local mayor.

coat of arms

Blazon : “In red a Roland bareheaded in silver armor; Holding a raised sword in his right hand, the left leg covered with a golden shield with a black double-headed eagle. "

The coat of arms was designed in 1994 by the municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and included in the approval process.

Attractions

Roland von Buch

Around 1580 the Roland von Buch, a 3.50 m high Roland figure made of sandstone, was erected on the market square of Buch. Before that there should have been a wooden Roland. The construction of the town hall around 1680 required the figure to be moved to the town hall entrance. The town hall tower collapsed as early as 1683 and the Roland statue was smashed. After the restoration, the head was destroyed in a fire in the town hall in 1690 and replaced by the current head. This was probably not based on the original. In 1693 the Roland moved to its current location in front of the Lehnschulzenhof.

Economy and Infrastructure
