Buildings and monuments was the last definitive series of the Deutsche Post in the GDR . After the monetary, economic and social union, the stamps appeared on Monday, July 2, 1990 in DM currency and were from this point also valid in the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany and in West Berlin until December 31, 1991. Mixed frankings with the stamps of the Deutsche Bundespost and the Deutsche Bundespost Berlin were allowed, those with older GDR postage stamps in GDR marks only until October 2, 1990, when they became invalid.

Printing process

The stamps designed by Hans Detlefsen were printed in rotogravure with a comb perforation of 14 1/4 to 14 in sheets (10 × 10) and Michel number 3346 additionally as a roll stamp (from July 31, 1990). The stamps 3345 and 3346 were also issued in stamp booklets (MH 10).

Postal stationery

Postcard postage was valid until March 31, 1991 in the Eastern traffic area and in all Eastern Bloc countries. Postcards to western countries cost 50 pfennigs at the time, but no independent official postcards were produced for them. Postcard sales ended on March 31, 1991 ; with additional postage, the cards could be used until December 31, 1991.
