Volker Zastrow (* 1958 in Niebüll ) is a German journalist and author.

Life

Zastrow grew up in a small town. He stayed seated once at school. After graduating from high school, he studied history at the Free University of Berlin and became an assistant to Arnulf Baring . In 1990 he became editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . From 2006 to 2019 he headed the politics department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung (FAS). Zastrow has been writing as a simple author since October 2019, his successor at the head of the political section was Nikolas Busse . The reasons for the change were kept silent.

He published the results of his research on the Barschel affair in the FAZ on January 31, 1995 in a novel-like form . In 2006, his work “Gender - Political Gender Change” followed. In this, he takes a critical look at the concept of gender mainstreaming in two essays .

In 2009, in his book Die Vier , he described and analyzed the background story of those four SPD dissenters who thwarted Andrea Ypsilanti's election as Prime Minister of a minority government tolerated by the left . To do this, he evaluated months of research and interviews with numerous participants. Tissy Bruns wrote in the Tagesspiegel that his story draws its strength "from the description of the 'inner facts', the feelings and thoughts of the people involved" and his skill in making the career of the Federal Republic vivid in political careers.

In October 2010, he initiated a series of articles in the FAS, in which the work of the Voluntary Self-Control of the Film Industry (FSK) is vehemently criticized: Films approved for ages 12 and over would often contain “fecal language” and sexuality was less “reserved and sensitive”. represent. Among other things, it was about films that deal with homosexuality and the Holocaust . In his article Zastrow came to the conclusion that the FSK seal “from 12” is “harmful to young people”. The series of articles was partly mockingly criticized.

He also published an extensive text on the inevitability of Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg's resignation .
