Stump chamber

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The immediate vicinity of the striking Königsstuhl chalk cliff in the Jasmund National Park on the island of Rügen is known as the stump chamber . The few buildings in this area, u. a. also the National Park Center Königsstuhl , form the Stubbenkammer district of the city of Sassnitz . The name Stubbenkammer is derived from the Slavic : Stopin stands for step and came for rock.

In particular, the highest chalk cliffs in Rügen are called this. A distinction is made between the large and the small stump chamber. The large stump chamber includes the 118 meter high Königsstuhl and the directly adjacent chalk cliff to the north, including the gorge in between. The small stump chamber is the chalk wall south of the Königsstuhl with the vantage point Victoria-Sicht , which was so named in 1865 on the occasion of a visit by the then King of Prussia Wilhelm I with the Crown Princess Victoria (his daughter-in-law). Further south, the Kollicker Ufer and the Hohe Ufer are connected , but they are no longer part of the stump chamber.

The best way to get to Stubbenkammer from the large car park in Hagen - a district of the municipality of Lohme - is by shuttle bus or via a hiking trail that leads through the Stubnitz forest past Lake Herthasee . A high bank path leads from Sassnitz, seven kilometers away, to the Wissower Klinken over the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt -icht, the Kieler Bach with the Auguste-Viktoria -icht there and the Kollicker village to Stubbenkammer and from there on to the four kilometers away , Lohme , on the north coast of Jasmund .
