The cargo ship series peace , and type IV called, is a general cargo ship type of Warnow Werft .
history
The series was manufactured in 15 units from 1957 to 1961. It was the first series of 10,000-tonne seagoing vessels from a shipyard in the GDR and formed the backbone of the first worldwide liner traffic of the young German shipping company (DSR). The ships were intended primarily for the combined transport of general cargo and heavy cargo, but also for ore and bulk cargo.
The first ship and namesake of the series was the Frieden , which was delivered to the DSR on June 23, 1957, with hull number 301. The Rostock-based Frieden was never renamed and from August 1978 scrapped in Shanghai . The conclusion was formed by the Sierra Maestra launched on August 26, 1961 and handed over to Cuba on December 20, 1961 . This was renamed Maisi in 1980 and scrapped in the 1980s. The traditional Frieden ship , the former Dresden , exhibited as a museum ship in Rostock has been preserved to this day.
technology
The ships were propelled by four 1324 kW four-stroke diesel engines of the type 8 SV 66 Au made by EKM Halberstadt. Two motors each act via an electromagnetic slip clutch on one of the two fixed propellers. This power was delivered via two waveguides to the twin screws, each 4.50 m in diameter. Two machines each in clockwise and counter-clockwise rotation and two machines in anti-clockwise and clockwise rotation, with the gearbox interposed via couplings, work on one shaft. The design as a twin screw ship ensured favorable maneuverability. Driving the four main diesel engines via a central operator's platform enabled quick reactions to required machine maneuvers.
Except for the riveted shear duct and the likewise riveted stringer plates, the hulls are joined by welding . The five holds with a volume of 18,465 m 3 grain space and 16,670 m 3 bale space had intermediate decks and were locked on the main deck with single-pull hatch covers of the McGregor system.
The first six ships of the series were equipped with grain bulkheads. The loading gear consists of ten 3.5-ton loading booms , four 5/8-ton loading booms, a floating 50-ton heavy-lift boom and two 3-ton ship cranes.
