Mixed light lamp
A mixed light lamp ( English self-ballasted mercury lamp ) is a special form of mercury high pressure lamp , in addition to the gas discharge tube (burner) a filament is still installed.
Functionality / properties
The incandescent filament is connected in series to the burner within the lamp and, in addition to generating light, also serves to limit the current. With the filament as a series resistor, the lamp can be operated directly on 230 volts and without a ballast.
The color rendering is in the 2A / 2B range, has a value of around 60 to 70 and is therefore somewhat better than that of pure mercury vapor lamps. The light output of the mixed light lamp in the 250 W version is 22 lm / W and is thus significantly below the light output of a high pressure mercury lamp with a comparable output. The color temperature is the same for both types of lamps at approximately 4000 K.
In comparison with the incandescent lamp, the color rendering is much worse. On the other hand, the light output of the mixed light lamp is up to 50% higher.
General:
- The lamp has an approx. 30% higher starting current than the operating current
- The lamp is available in 100 W, 160 W and 250 W for E27 socket and in 250 W and 500 W for E40 socket.
Advantages and disadvantages
- advantages
- can be used in place of incandescent lamps, as neither a ballast nor an ignitor is required
- with a service life of 4000 hours, more durable than normal incandescent lamps
- Immediately after switching on, they achieve a light output that is significantly higher than that of a pure mercury vapor lamp
- dimmable within limits
- disadvantage
- high acquisition costs of 9 to 30 € per lamp
- low luminous efficiency of 18 to 27 lm / W
- vertical operating position specified (± 45 °)
- cannot be restarted immediately after switching off (approx. 3 min. waiting time)
Note: Service life, operating position and re-ignition behavior are manufacturer-dependent.
Areas of application
- Industrial hall lighting
- Lighting for plants and animals
- isolated in the street lighting
- Private households
- Special applications where no ballast can be installed
