Missal of the Priest Mavra

The Missal of Priest Mavra (or Breviary of Priest Mavra ) is an illuminated manuscript in Church Slavonic in Glagolitic script from 1460 from Vrbnik in Dalmatia . On 417 sheets of parchment it contains the text for the liturgy of the Catholic Holy Mass with local peculiarities and influences of the liturgy of Saints Cyril and Methodius . The text is written in two columns in 30 lines and contains 270 colored ornate initials .

The manuscript was made in 1460 for the priest Mavra from Vrbnik on the island of Krk by Blaž Baromić, according to a note. In 1471 astronomical information was added with computistic and calendar dates.

In 1982 the manuscript was acquired by the then Croatian Republic from Umberto Pezzolia from Rome. Today it is in the National and University Library in Zagreb .
