Mistletoe and Wine ( mistletoe and wine ) is a well-known English Christmas carol . The song was written by Jeremy Paul , Leslie Stewart and Keith Strachan . It comes from the TV musical Scraps about the story The little girl with the sulfur sticks by Hans Christian Andersen . It became very popular in a version by Cliff Richard , who landed it a Christmas number one hit in the UK in December 1988 .
