history

The company was founded in 1963 under the name Misumi Shōji KK ( 三 住 商 事 株式会社 , German: "Misumi Handels-AG", English Misumi Shoji Co., Ltd. ) as a small mail order company for electronic components and storage technology. Two years later, shipping for components for stamping tool construction was added. Numerous sales offices were opened in Japan by the mid-1970s, creating a close-knit sales network. In 1977 the first catalog for stamping tool construction components was published. The company increasingly focused on catalog mailing and its distribution model. This differed from the competition in that the customer could configure the required components himself in very detailed steps, thus eliminating the need for expensive and time-consuming special production based on individual drawings. Another catalog appeared in the mid-1980s: Components for injection mold construction. The company thus expanded its sales model to include a further component group. In 1987 Misumi began to expand outside of Japan. First branches were opened in Taiwan and a year later in the USA. Also in 1988 the product portfolio was expanded again: The first catalog for components for assembly automation and special machine construction was published. In 1989 the company was given its current name.

With the establishment of MISUMI UK Ltd. in Great Britain, the company expanded to Europe for the first time in 1989. In the 1990s, numerous branches and sales centers were opened in Asia. The company has been listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange since 1994, in the first segment since 1998. In 2003, MISUMI Europa GmbH was opened as a further European branch in Germany. In the years that followed, numerous distribution centers were set up around the world in order to optimize the now global shipping of millions of components.

Today's corporate structure

While Misumi appeared exclusively as a trading company until 2005, this changed with the merger with the component manufacturer Suruga Seiki KK ( 駿 河 精 機 株式会社 , English Suruga Seiki Co., Ltd. ). For the first time, Misumi was able to control the entire process chain from production to sales and was no longer exclusively dependent on third-party manufacturers. The merged companies were restructured. The Misumi Group is responsible for all global activities in the areas of marketing, logistics, information systems, product development, product manufacturing and their supervision. The KK Misumi ( 株式会社 ミ ス ミ , Misumi Corporation ) operating under this umbrella , with the areas of punching tool construction, injection mold construction and standard components for assembly automation and special machine construction, is responsible for implementing the concepts. Suruga Seiki is responsible for the component production area. The third subsidiary under the roof is the KK Promiclos ( 株式会社 プ ロ ミ ク ロ ス , English Promiclos Corporation ) for the manufacture of medical instruments.

MISUMI Europe GmbH

From here all components are shipped to all of Europe and Africa. The company's European headquarters are located in the Bockenheim district of Frankfurt in the St Martin Tower.
