Mitchell Winehouse (born December 4, 1950 in London ) is a retired British taxi driver. He is the father of singer Amy Winehouse, who died in 2011, and is a co-founder of the Amy Winehouse Foundation .

Life

Mitch Winehouse was born the son of a barber. His father owned a barber shop on Commercial Street in London and his mother, Cynthia, owned a barber shop. The family lived in the apartment above the shop. Through his mother, who was friends with the jazz musician Ronnie Scott , he learned to love music. As a young man he sang semi-professionally himself, but then made a living doing various other jobs, such as installing window coverings and driving a taxi.

In 1976 he married the pharmacist Janis Seaton. The two children Alex and Amy Winehouse emerged from the marriage. After divorce in 1993, he is married for the second time. He is said to be a distinct family man and to have intensively supported his daughter in the fight against her drug and alcohol addiction.

After the death of Amy Winehouse, who died of acute alcohol intoxication on July 23, 2011, Mitch Winehouse processed the experiences of the last few years in a biography of Amy, my daughter . It was published in 2012 on the first anniversary of his daughter's death and has been translated into several languages. In memory of his daughter, he founded the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a foundation that primarily supports disadvantaged children and young people with drug and alcohol problems.

Mitch Winehouse has been performing publicly as a singer for several years. In 2010 he made his debut with the album Rush Of Love , which was created in collaboration with Tony Hiller . When selecting the songs, Winehouse used the genres of jazz , swing and crooning . According to his own statements, he donates his fees for appearances and interviews as well as his income from authors to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.

In the biopic Amy he feels portrayed negatively, which infuriated him towards the filmmakers, whom he then heavily criticized.
