Mitro Repo

Mitro Repo (born September 3, 1958 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish priest of the Orthodox Church of Finland and from 2009 to 2014 a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Repo was born in Finland in 1958. He studied theology at Helsinki University and became a priest in the Orthodox Church of Finland. In Finland he became known as a radio and television presenter.

In 2009 he was elected to the European Parliament for the Social Democratic Party of Finland . The leadership of the Orthodox Church of Finland forbade him from holding church services or appearing in priestly clothing while he was a member of parliament.
