The Kastenbein beech in Syke is a natural monument , consisting of two red beeches , in the Lower Saxon town of Syke ( district of Diepholz ).

description

The Kastenbein beech is located in the Friedeholz forest area in Syker between Bundesstraße 6 and Landesstraße  333, near the so-called “fairy tale square” created by the Syker artist Detlef Voges.

The natural monument is made up of two red beeches ( Fagus sylvatica ) that stand close together and unite in the upper area to form a common trunk. It is not clear whether artificial interventions led to the development of this particular tree shape.

The box-leg beech is considered a “wish tree”: visitors who walk between the two trunks can make a wish.

history

The common beech was planted around 100 years ago. It owes its name to the forester Heinrich Kastenbein , who served in Syker Friedeholz around 1900.
