The communications of the Association of Austrian Librarians (VÖB-Mitteilungen) are a German-language specialist library journal and the organ of the Association of Austrian Librarians (VÖB). They were established in 1947 as the working protocols of the Association of Austrian Librarians and issued from 1949 to 1993 as communications of the Association of Austrian Librarians . Since number 63 (2010) 3/4, the VÖB-Mitteilungen have been looked after by a multi-person editorial team, after Josef Pauser had previously acted as the sole editor in charge from 2002. The magazine appears three times a year. The entire magazine has been available for download as a free PDF file at the same time as the print edition was published since 2011 . Since mid-2012, individual articles have also been published on the document server E-LIS (E-prints in Library and Information Science) Open Access .
The contributions consist of academic articles, communications and reviews and are written by professionals in the field of library and information science . Since issue 55 (2002) 3/4, the full texts can be obtained from the website, older issues from year 30 (1977) are archived at Austrian Literature Online .
Online communications
From September 1979 to November 2007, the online announcements were included in the VÖB announcements . This publication was founded by Heinz Hauffe and edited by the "Electronic Media" working group of the VÖB.
The online communications initially served the exchange of experiences between employees in information agencies via online research at international hosts and later also via CD-ROM databases, web databases and finally electronic magazines. Since the handling of electronic media and their acquisition, evidence and communication meanwhile affects all departments of libraries, it was decided in autumn 2007 to merge the two publication organs of the VÖB under the title and the ISSN of VÖB-Mitteilungen.
