Description and history

The village consists of seven wooden buildings, including a church. It is enclosed by a picket fence . Access is possible via a drawbridge and through the village gate. The bailiff's house was built in block construction.

In November 2000 the Association for Environmental Education and Forest Education at Schools eV was founded by the forest offices and primary schools in the Hann. Münden was founded together with educators, foresters and nature conservationists. Since September 2004, the medieval village of Steinrode has been built in cooperation with the newly structured Münden Forestry Department on the grounds of the Steinberg Youth Forest Home (today WPZ) . The development of the village was supported by sponsors, the environmental lottery Bingo! , the Employment Agency and the International Federation .

Educational concept

Representation at the Spring Festival 2014: Knights defending the rear entrance to the village

The medieval village of Steinrode serves as an extracurricular learning location to bring children closer to history, nature and handicrafts. The main focus is on the development from raw material to end product and sustainable lifestyle. Due to the special location in the middle of the Kaufungen Forest , children, young people and adults should experience the close connection between their ancestors and the forest and nature for themselves. The forest supplies the village with wood. Sand, stones and clay can be fetched up close by handcart and processed in the village's craftsmen's houses. By working in groups, the social skills of children and their self-esteem through the importance of their own performance for the community are to be promoted. Biological learning locations such as forest ant nests, ponds, a spring and a footbridge over the Hühnerfeld high moor are located near the village.

program

The program combines environmental education and social learning . When designing the program, individual priorities are set in consultation with the teachers, supervisors or parents. There are also explorations outside the village under expert guidance. Holiday offers, language camps, forest days, spring and autumn festivals round off the offer. Cooperation exists with the Göttingen Forest Education Center, the biological learning locations of the Kassel region ("Bioleka"), Berlepsch Castle and the universities of Kassel, Marburg and Bamberg;
