The basic position of the gambit after 2.… d7 – d5
The Middle Gambit in the move is an opening in chess . It belongs to the open games .
The move sequence is characteristic of the Gambit (see also chess notation ):
- 1. e2 – e4 e7 – e5
- 2. Ng1-f3 d7-d5
White has an advantage with 3. e4xd5, regardless of whether Black answers with 3.… Bf8 – d6 (the so-called elephant gambit), with 3.… e5 – e4 or with 3.… Qd8xd5. The latter is called Scandinavian Defense . The Middle Gambit in the aftermath is therefore seldom found; at the grandmaster level it is not played at all.
